Description: The Middle School Ancient Civilizations course is the first of two history courses specifically designed for late elementary and middle school students. Studying ancient civilizations is one of the most fascinating areas of all human history. The Story of the World series will be the main text for the two courses, with this course completing Volume 1 and continuing up to the Black Plague (through chapter 24) in Volume 2. This course will provide a general introduction to several of the most prominent ancient civilizations from across the globe, introducing the student to the primary features of each, and examining the major influences and contributions to human history. Weekly readings, map work, class discussion, quizzes, 2-3 tests per semester, and projects will be used to aid in the knowledge and appreciation of the ancient world. A focus on organization, the art of notetaking, and learning to verbally contribute in class are the academic intangibles that are intentionally developed with this course. Additionally, the historical fiction we have included will enhance the topics and strengthen the student’s reading and comprehension skills. Come join us as we explore human history - from the beginning!

Description: This course is the second of two history courses specifically designed for late elementary and middle school students. We pick up in Volume 2 at the time of the Black Plague (chapter 25), where the MS Ancient History course ends. Studying world history is like taking a trip across the world and through time. You can’t go everywhere, but if you visit enough places, you can start to see the connections that have shaped the world we live in today. This course will seek a global perspective on the past, one that acknowledges God’s hand and integrates the historical experiences of all the world’s people - with special emphasis on Martin Luther and the Reformation. Weekly readings, an interactive notebook, class discussion, quizzes, two-three tests per semester, and at-home projects will be used to aid in the knowledge and appreciation of the history of other countries and cultures. Organization, the art of note taking and learning to verbally contribute in class are intentionally developed and challenged with this course. Additionally, the historical fiction we have included will enhance the topics and strengthen the student’s reading and comprehension skills. Come join or continue our journey through time!

Book:
Your own Bible, any version
Supply List: 1” three-ring binder, binder dividers, notebook paper, pencils, and a journal of your choosing of any size or shape with at least 40 pages
Description: “I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure.” (Psalm 119:162) "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) Come enjoy the Word of the Lord with me as we read through the Bible in three years. This class will include reading assignments for each school week, (between ten and fifteen chapters of the Bible per week), a weekly journal assignment, monthly scripture memorization, and three Bible projects per semester. You can jump in at any point! This year (2025-2026) we will continue our journey in the Bible by reading Job through Malachi. Each class time we will review the reading, have a short devotional, and have a time for prayer requests and prayer. My prayer for this class follows Psalm 119 closely: I pray that we will take heed, not forget, live and keep, and be revived by the Word of the Lord by hiding it in our hearts so that we may have life and be established to trust in God. This is a class for both those who love His word already and those who are intimidated by reading the whole Bible. We will read, Job through Malachi in the 2025-2026 school year, Matthew through Revelation in the 2026-2027 school year, and Genesis through Esther in the 2027-2028 school year. Read along with me to find the greatest treasure!
