Description: Middle School Choir provides an opportunity for Middle School Students to participate in a choir. This format is excellent for the developing young voices at an important time of vocal development. Our performances and classes are educational, unifying and fun. Students improve musical and vocal skills (becoming comfortable and secure in part singing), while cultivating close friendships among their fellow singers. We are excited to offer this class in a combination format. The group will meet together until 3:50, while the girls will have a five minute break and continue for an additional 20 minutes for Ladies Ensemble. We will be learning additional women’s repertoire during this time. No prior musical experience is required. Music theory, sight-singing, and rhythm drills will be regular components of the class. Students will participate in concerts at the end of each semester. Additional opportunities may be available through the East Tennessee Vocal Association for choral festivals and honor choirs if the students are interested. “Music classes offer many benefits which make them very indispensable. Performance programs enhance a student’s sense of self-esteem as well as their social skills. Students become a part of a positive group and organization. Not only do students profit socially from music programs, but they also gain academically.” (Resource: The College Board)

Description: This course will be an exciting hands-on journey through Art History! We will work through the major art movements of the Western World, as well as important artwork in Asia. We will begin our studies at the tail end of the Renaissance and carry on our journey through movements such as Romanticism, Impressionism, Pointillism, and Fauvism. We will study specific artists and their techniques.  Homework and projects will give each student a chance to explore, more thoroughly, what we have touched on in class as well as sometimes preparing students for what is coming up in class. Homework will be given weekly. Art experiences required outside of class will also further each student's learning. We will use all sorts of media such as acrylic paint, sumi-e ink, clay, chalk pastel, oil pastel, and mixed-media! This fun survey course will guide your student through art history, while giving your child the perspective that our Creator is evident in what man creates throughout time and around the world.  Most importantly, students will also learn how to use their creative abilities as a platform to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others! Of note, a two-year rotation of books is incorporated, so your child can take the class two years in a row without repeating information, homework, etc.

*If your child is in 8th grade, you can choose between this and our High School Art class.

Cardiovascular and muscular endurance will be assessed each month to challenge students and help them reach their fitness goals. Students will participate in a variety of games designed to build on the 11 health and skill-related components of fitness. Book:  Your own Bible, any version, and a journal of any size or shape with at least 40 pages

Description:  "I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure.” Psalm 119:162 "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Come enjoy the Word of the Lord with me as we read through the Bible in three years. This class will include reading assignments for each school week,  (between ten and fifteen chapters of the Bible per week), a weekly journal assignment, monthly scripture memorization, and three projects per semester. We will begin this year at the beginning, reading Genesis through Deuteronomy by Christmas break with a Genesis project, a Tabernacle project, and a Pentateuch project showcasing what we are learning as we read these beloved historical books. Each class time we will review the reading, have a short devotional, and have a time for prayer requests and prayer. My prayer for this class follows Psalm 119 closely: I pray that we will take heed, not forget, live and keep, and be revived by the Word of the Lord by hiding it in our hearts so that we may have life and be established to trust in God. This is a class for both those who love His word already and those who are intimidated by reading the whole Bible. We will read Genesis through Esther in the 2024-2025 school year, Job through Malachi in the 2025-2026 school year, and Matthew through Revelation in the 2026-2027 school year. Read along with me to find the greatest treasure!
