Course: Beginning Elementary Science – Oceans
Grade Level: 2-3 (Advanced 1st graders may apply – must be a proficient reader)

Online Availability: Students cannot enroll in this class as an Online Real Time student. All students must attend in person. If you are sick or traveling, you can join via Zoom for up to two consecutive weeks.

Description: In this class, your child will have fun learning about God’s creation and  it will be a wonderful introduction to the world of science. We will incorporate our textbook and journal with a very practical, hands-on learning approach. From the microscopic to the massive, your student will wonder at God's designs in the amazing aquatic animals He formed, when He filled the earth's waters with animals great and small. Each week there will be many laboratory/learning experiences that will engage your student. There will be brief homework assignments and a few introductory tests that will allow them to practice some basic study skills. Of note, this is a one-year curriculum and we will not rotate to a different curriculum next year.

Description: Do you want your child to experience science with hands-on learning/experiments, discover new things, and learn more about God’s amazing creation? This course will excite your young students by introducing them to God's creation using an exciting series of books through Apologia. We use a four-year rotation of books in this series. Exploring Creation with Astronomy is being used this year (2024-2025). Other books to be used in the following years include: Exploring Creation with Zoology 1, Exploring Creation with Botany, and Land Animals of the 6th Day. We have been using these books for over 10 years and they are phenomenal! We also supplement each year with a unit study on the human body. Further, we include new material on the human body each of the four years in the rotation. Students will participate in a hands-on laboratory experiment every week, a variety of active-learning field trips and a Project Day at the end of the year. Homework will be assigned each week. Also, in order to give the young students a chance to develop their test-taking skills, tests are given every four to five weeks in a very relaxed classroom environment.

Supplies List: 2″ three-ring notebook, notebook paper, and pencils

*The Online Real Time (ORT) students will have the opportunity to perform many of the same hands-on lab experiments at home. Supply lists will be provided prior to class for items that are easily available.  For those that are more difficult to obtain, students will be included through observation and discussion.
