Description:  My goal for this class is for students to gain a vision of the beauty and excitement of being a Christian in today’s world through our reading of fable, fantasy, allegory, and myth. We will discuss the cultures and truths behind these stories as we apply the lens of Scripture to encourage and enliven our reading, our writing, and our faith. The books will be read in the order they are listed above. We will use various charts and worksheets given in class to increase our grammar and writing skills as we write literature and personal responses. Our focus in grammar will come from pages 36-80 of The Grammar Teacher’s Activity-a-Day: 180 Ready-to-Use Lessons to Teach Grammar and Usage, from which I will take the worksheets for the grammar portion of class. You don’t need to own this book, but you can look at the pages on amazon for reference. We will continue our practice of learning punctuation, spelling, and capitalization through a sentence starter at the beginning of each class. We use a three-year rotation of various books, so students can enter as 6th graders and take this class until they are ready for High School Literature and Composition grades 9-10 (English I/II). You can check the class blog (hhlosterlit.blogspot.com) to gain more insight into this class, its literary works, and the grammar lessons.
