Description:  Students will become familiar with literary terms and techniques as they explore EXCITING novels that captivate readers with dynamic plots and inspiring protagonists.  Experience amazing authors like John Bunyan, JRR Tolkien, Mark Twain, Jack London, George Macdonald, Louisa May Alcott, Guy de Maupassant, and many more.  Students will acquire the basic tools needed to distinguish between a Biblical worldview and a secular worldview as presented in literature.  Extensive reading, various writing assignments, vocabulary quizzes, weekly journal responses and several projects will be assigned.  Each semester students will choose a biography to read and analyze, in addition to the required reading.  We also offer an Advanced Reading Program for students who want to tackle more than the books covered in class. We use a 3-year rotation of various books, which are never repeated, so students can enter as 6th graders and take this class until they are ready for High School Literature and Composition grades 9-10 (English I/II).

Description:  Students will become familiar with literary terms and techniques as they explore EXCITING novels that captivate readers with dynamic plots and inspiring protagonists.  As we discover myth, allegory, fable, and fantasy, we will discuss the cultures and truths that those stories teach us. Students will acquire the basic tools needed to distinguish between a Biblical worldview and a secular worldview as presented in literature.  We will be reading classic British and American poetry throughout the semester as well. Increasing our skill in writing about literature and personal topics will also be our composition focus. An Advanced Reading Program will be offered for students who want to tackle more than the books covered in class. We use a 3-year rotation of various books, so students can enter as 6th graders and take this class until they are ready for High School Literature and Composition grades 9-10 (English I/II).
